Lovinggood PTSA eNews! Nominating Committee's Proposed Slate of Officers The Lovinggood PTSA Nominating Committee presents the following slate of officers for the 2008-2009 school year. **We are still looking for a Co President and a Co Secretary** If you are interested in nominating someone for either position please contact Jennifer Crosby at jennifer_c@bellsouth.net. President Teri Primiano Co Vice Presidents Sherry Byrd Timothy Brown Secretary Robin Cook Treasurer Renee Clark The Lovinggood PTSA Bylaws states that the offices of President and Secretary can be a single person or co officers. Please contact Jennifer Crosby if you are interested in either position. The induction of officers will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 7:30pm. Hey, Hey, it’s FCA! We have had a lot of fun at FCA this week and Friday wraps up the end of Freedom Week. We will have Chip Paul in the house, so don’t be late. This is the last day to donate Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite for Lovinggood on the Lawn.   We will also be selling t-shirts for Cobb County’s Revolution movement for $5 each.See you bright and early! The Not So GREAT Plan for Georgia and What It Means for Our Schools

Have you been hearing about the GREAT Plan for Georgia, HR 900 or tax reform? There have been articles in the newspapers, discussion and presentations by various organizations and presenters around the state, and lots of buzz in general. What is it? The Speaker of the House has proposed the GREAT Plan (Georgia's Repeal of Every Ad Valorem Tax) which would get rid of all ad valorem (property) taxes and replace that revenue by repealing most of the existing sales tax exemptions on things like food, medical prescriptions and services, legal services, tuition, haircuts, etc. Georgia PTA has posted detailed information on the Georgia PTA website under Capitol Watch regarding the proposal as well as a worksheet that you can download and use to determine whether you'd be better or worse off under this new plan. One area that would be worse off is our schools.
County governments (providing things like public safety, jails, parks, road improvements, etc.) would also be wholly dependent on the State for funding. The implications are huge. Click here to read an article that explains this issue in greater detail then download it and put it in your school PTA newsletter. It needs to be in every PTA newsletter so that we can raise awareness of this issue. The article has specific areas that should be customized for your school district but most of the information it contains is relevant to every school district throughout Georgia. Georgia PTA is part of a coalition fighting this proposal. At the October Georgia PTA Board meeting, the Board of Directors passed a resolution opposing the elimination of property taxes and supporting local control. If our locally elected officials cannot control the purse strings why do we have them? We want local officials making the decisions that effect our local communities. It is time for the 6th Grade Social! We will have a DJ, pizza, drinks and desserts along with lots of fun!!! Staff, 76th grade teachers and parents will supervise this event. Your child MUST have the attached permission slip turned in by Tuesday morning, October 9th to participate. We will collect the permission slips on the mornings of Monday, October 8th and Tuesday, October 9th on the 6th grade hallways. Please check with your homeroom teachers to confirm PTSA memberships.
