Lovinggood PTSA eNews!  The results of the Georgia Tech Jacket to Jacket Winter Reading Break Incentive
Lovinggood Middle School won every category: Highest School Total Highest Class Total Highest Individual Total
Lovinggood Middle School sixth grade students will be recognized at halftime of
the Georgia Tech vs. Florida State University basketball game (4:00 P.M. this Sunday).
Lovinggood Middle School will receive a plaque and book donations. Hannah Blumsack,
the highest individual reader, will be awarded a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card.
The game will be televised (most likely on ESPN 2 or Cox Sport South). There is
a good chance our students could be seen on TV.

Lovinggood PTSA eNews! Hi there, Thanks for the nice mention at your website. I just wanted to clarify a few details. We actually stopped taking cards back in 2003; the program had grown so much that we were receiving more than 1,000,000 parcels of cards a year--far more than we could manage. The program started eating into funds that were needed to care for the children. However, we are restructuring the program and plan to launch it again later this year; the new program will be announced sometime late spring. In the meantime we are asking people NOT to send cards as we have neither the staff nor the space to handle them. (In fact we have several thousand cards that have yet to be processed from previous years.) Just thought I'd let you know. If you could spread the word that would be great because cards continue to be sent by well-meaning folks and we hate to have them waste time or postage; we'd rather they just sent them to their local recycling center. Lovinggood PTSA eNews! IT'S THAT TIME ALREADY..........  Time to Elect the Nominating Committee for Lovinggood PTSA. We are looking for candidates to be elected to the Nominating Committee. This committee is responsible for choosing qualified nominees for Lovinggood PTSA executive officers for the 2008-2009 PTSA school year. We would like candidates to be truly representative of the school and community. ANY PTSA member (meaning anyone who purchased a $5.00 membership this year) is eligible to serve on the nominating committee. If you are interested in being nominated or would like to nominate someone you may submit the persons name along with his or her phone number. Nominations may be placed in the PTSA mailbox located across from the Media Center or sent to us via email by responding to this email. Please submit nominations by Friday, February 8, 2008, to allow time for us to contact them to see if they are interested in serving if elected. Nominations will also be taken at the time of the vote. The Election of the Nominating Committee will be Tuesday, February 15, 2008, at the PTSA General Meeting at 6:30 pm in the Lovinggood Auditorium.

Holiday Card Recycling Idea  If you are wondering what to do with those Christmas/Holiday cards you received, here's an idea. . . At the beginning of each year, St. Jude's Hospital institutes their card recycling program. If you have any used Christmas/Holiday cards (and later receive birthday, Easter, etc.) the children at St. Jude's would love to receive them. They use the card fronts to cut and make into new cards and resell them. They are paid so much a card which in turn becomes their spending money and is used for outings, etc. What they need are JUST the card fronts; not the whole card. If you would like to send card fronts on to St. Jude's at any time during the year, or would like to inform friends and family, please send them to: St. Jude's Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude's Street, Boulder City, NV 89005-1681 (Attn: St. Jude's Ranch for Children - All Greeting Card Recycling Program).

Lovinggood PTSA eNews! STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
Twenty-Five Schools Earn Advanced Placement Certified Schools Honors Each of the District's 15 high schools, as well as 10 middle schools have met the required criteria for inclusion in the Advanced Placement Certified Schools (APCS) program.
The APCS program began in 2004 as a means of making challenging honors and AP classes accessible to more students and support high achievement in their course work. The 2008 awards are as follows: Demonstration Level: Harrison, Kennesaw Mountain, Lassiter, Osborne, Pope, Sprayberry, Walton, Wheeler Certified Level: Campbell, Kell, North Cobb Affiliate Level: Hillgrove, McEachern, Pebblebrook, South Cobb Middle School Affiliates:
Several middle schools have met the criteria required to be APCS Affiliates. CDs available at FCA at the T-shirt table for $10 each, starting this Friday. T-Mo brought an awesome message this past Friday about Rap and Hip Hop and the things you allow to influence your life. If you missed it, ask a friend about it. It was too good to keep to yourself. T-Mo issued a music challenge to all of the students at FCA. Voters interested in voting in the Feb. 5 Presidential Preference Primary should be aware that the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration has made several changes to polling places since the Governor’s Election in 2006. Voters can check online by going to sos.georgia.gov and then clicking on the “Poll Locator” button or they may call the Cobb Elections office 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 770-528-2581.

Lovinggood PTSA eNews! Writing Assessment  All students in the 8th grade will take the State Writing Test on the morning of Wednesday, January 16th.
eNews Posts Now Available on the Lovinggood PTSA Website Beginning with this mailing, all of the eNews emails will also be posted on the Lovinggood PTSA website. So if you remember something that was in an eNews, but can’t lay your hands on the email message, you can go to the website and find it! As a reminder... School Closing Information The following information for weather related closings comes from the Cobb County School District site. You may check for updates on their site at: WHEN IS THE DECISION MADE? The decision is made by 5:30 a.m., except in the situations when inclement weather may force school closings during the school day, so that radio and TV stations can be notified. HOW IS THE PUBLIC NOTIFIED?
