Lovinggood Holiday Update

A.  Thanks to FCA for the banner that is located in the foyer.  Our school’s motto is prominently displayed and serves as a reminder that we do believe that Excellence, Honor and Service are more than words.  Each year FCA donates a gift to the school.  We are appreciative of their selection this year.

B.  Our students and families have graciously donated toys to the School Council for Toys for Tots.  Many of you made a contribution to our very own families by responding to the Giving Tree.  Many thanks to the LMS School Council and our PTSA for thinking of others and helping them enjoy the holiday season.

C.  Listed below are resources that you can use to help your students practice or reinforce content.  We’re emphasizing math but the software does include other subjects.  Many of these are beneficial to prepare students for the CRCT.  Your help in using these resources in appreciated.

  1. From the Georgia Department of Education, go to www.gadoe.org/math.aspx,.  Familiarize yourself with the math standards that your student is working on each day.  Review some of the parent, and even teacher resources, and look over the Helpful Links section.
  2. Utilize the SkillsTutor program.  SkillsTutor is an on-line tool that every student has access to and allows students to engage in lessons and activities that provide individual instruction to help students achieve skill mastery.  This program is aligned with the Georgia state standards in all subject areas.  Directions for use are on our website on the left hand tab column.
  3. The Georgia On-line Assessment System is another helpful tool and can be found at www.georgiaoas.org .  This website allows students, parents, teachers and access to test items that are aligned with Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in order to assess current knowledge of items and help guide instruction.  Further information about this system will be given to students and parents in the near future, but for now you can click on the tab that says “Parent” and follow the instructions to have you student take practice test.
  4. USA Test Prep is also another on-line tutorial site that has practice test and exercises that are correlated with the Georgia Performance Standards and can help in preparing for the CRCT.  The website is www.usatestprep.com , the username is “lgmsga” and the password is “newton24” . (8th grade only)
  5. Video Tutorials are also available through our math book vendor, Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, at my.hrw.com .  The username and password for this site should have been given to your student by their math teacher.  If they are unaware of this, or have misplace this information, please contact your students math teacher.

D.  Conference Week is Jan. 26 – 30, 2008. This year eighth grade will pilot Student Led Conferences.  Students will discuss their progress with parents.  Teachers will be assigned to each conference to assist and answer questions.  Sixth and seventh grade teachers will lead all of their conferences.  Please click the link at the end of this email for the schedule for that week.

E.  Please note the second semester schedule.  Grade level connections and teacher planning times will change for the new semester.  Please click the link at the end of this email for the revised schedule for spring.

F.  The 8th Grade Writing Assessment will be given when we return from the Holiday break.  Teachers and students have worked hard to prepare for this assessment.

Enjoy the Winter Break.  We look forward to working with you in 2009.  Happy New Year!
