This is the last week for the Store, which will close for the school year on Friday, May 15. Store hours are 8:50 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Checks made payable to Lovinggood PTSA are accepted for the amount of purchase.

 8th Grade Picnic
Thursday, May 14th, 1:00 to 4:00

Yearbooks will be sold this week for $45, cash only, Tuesday-Thursday.  The 8th graders will receive their yearbooks at the picnic on Thursday, along with a sharpie for getting signatures.  The kids can also bring their cameras.  There will be lots of photo ops.

We're still looking for volunteers to help out with the picnic and would like to borrow any easy up tents that are available.

PENS program helps provide information and reduce crime

Through an innovative program called Police Email Notification System, or PENS, many Cobb residents and business owners have worked with the police department to better their communities and prevent crime. More than two years ago, the east Cobb precinct was suffering a large number of car break-ins and a pilot email distribution list was developed to provide crime trends, crime prevention tips and current information. With the success and popularity of the program, it was expanded and established in all 5 Cobb police precincts. Each has its own Web site containing information specific to the area.

The program focuses on informing and educating residents of actual crimes occurring and prevention techniques. For example, once the community began receiving information about possessions being stolen from unlocked cars and advice to remove valuables and lock doors, there was a 23 percent reduction in reported incidents. PENS also helps people communicate openly with police. Residents have helped police solve crimes and locate wanted individuals.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in PENS. In March, Senate Bill 26 passed and protects email addresses of PENS members from any Open Records requests by outside organizations wishing to obtain email distribution lists for purposes other than public safety. People signing up to participate in PENS will only receive information that pertains to public safety and awareness.
