National Call-in Day for Education Jobs!
Call Congress on Wednesday May 26th!
NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY TO SAVE EDUCATOR JOBS, WEDNESDAY, MAY 26!
This Wednesday, Speak Up for Education & Kids by participating in a National Call-in Day.
The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to markup its version of the emergency supplemental appropriations bill this week which will include $23 billion for education jobs funding. This funding is an essential step to avoid hundreds of thousands of teacher layoffs in our children’s schools.
TAKE ACTION:
Call 1-866-608-6355 to contact your Representative in Congress. You will be connected to the United States Capitol Switchboard.
Tell your Representative to support including funding to save education jobs in the emergency supplemental appropriations bill.
Make your voice heard! Participate in the National Call-In Day and speak up for education and kids!
Talking Points for National Call-In Day:
-
As a National PTA member, I am calling to urge Representative XXXX to support including funding to save education jobs in the emergency supplemental appropriations bill.
-
This is a national emergency -- 300,000 educators are losing their jobs across the country.
-
My child/children attend(s) XXXX school in your district. The children are the ones who will suffer – in overcrowded classrooms, with less time in school, and without the teachers and school staff needed to give them individual attention and help.
-
It is essential that we build upon the investment made in ARRA and provide $23 billion to help states support education jobs.
-
Given the importance of this issue, and the urgency with which Congress needs to act, the funding qualifies as emergency spending and that it should be included in the supplemental appropriations bill.

| Ask Your Representative to Cosponsor Bipartisan Family Engagement in Education Act (H.R. 5211) |
| |
On May 5, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Congressman Todd Platts (R-PA) introduced the bipartisan Family Engagement in Education Act. They are asking other Representatives to join them in support of this bill by becoming cosponsors.
The bipartisan Family Engagement in Education Act strengthens parent engagement in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which Congressional leaders have stated they want to reauthorize this year. It provides guidance and incentives to schools, districts, and states on how to use research-based strategies to engage families. This bill also strengthens and safeguards the sole federal parent engagement program, the Parental Information and Resource Centers (PIRCs).
We need Congress to make sure that family engagement is a cornerstone of the new ESEA.
What you can do:
Please ask your Representative to support the Family Engagement in Education Act (H.R. 5211), by becoming a cosponsor of this important bipartisan legislation.
