VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Mrs. Wilson has asked to have volunteers for 2 days a week for teachers to get lunches off! The teachers normally eat lunch with their students and we are going to offer them the chance to enjoy their lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays KID FREE!!! I will be coordinating the volunteers for the entire school year, so please let me know if you are interested and when you are available.
We need approximately 8 volunteers to cover lunch from 10:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. You can either volunteer for

The entire 2 hours and 15 minutes, or just part of that time
-
Sign up for a “regular” shift, or just sign up when you are available
When you respond, please let me know what date and time you are available and whether or not you want to be scheduled on a regular rotation or just occasional. Also, we will need some “back ups” for last minute cancellations, so let me know if you would like to be put on that list.
We will start this on
Tuesday, September 7th.
It is going to take a LOT of volunteers, so please consider volunteering - and sign up with a friend!

Early Release Days Announced: Aug. 25, 2010 & Feb. 2, 2011
On Wednesday, August 25, 2010 and Wednesday, February 2, 2011 all Cobb County students will be dismissed two hours early for district-wide teacher training. Buses will begin their normal routes at the early dismissal time. After-School Programs for elementary schools will begin immediately after early dismissal. These early release dates are not included in the Parent Information Guide, so please update your calendars with these important dates. The school calendar is available to view or print on the District Web site at www.cobbk12.org.

Meet & Greet
August 4th
2:00-4:00 p.m.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are looking for voluteers to help out at the spirit wear table during Meet & Greet. We need helpers from 1:30 to 4:30, this includes setting up and closing down. We are hoping to get enough folks to help that each person will only need to work a 30 minute shift. We need adults to work with the money but students (6th grade and up) can help with merchandise.

2010 Silverhawks 6th grade Pre-view Camp
TOMORROW, Thursday, July 22nd
Session 1
9:00 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. for Rising 6th Graders from Still & Cheatham Hill Elementary Schools
Session 2
12:00- 2:30 for Rising 6th Graders from Dowell & Kemp Elementary Schools
This pre-view camp is an opportunity for new Lovinggood 6th graders and their parents to tour the school, learn about day to day life at Lovinggood and get some tips for a successful transition into middle school. Activities include tours of the school, locker practice sessions, organization tips and question-answer sessions.
The Pre-View camp is for new Lovinggood students and their parents. No student should be dropped off and be unaccompanied.
Parent information sessions will be most helpful for parents who are sending a student to middle school for the first time.

Cobb School Bus Routes Available Now
Parents of Cobb County students can view their children's school bus routes for 2010-2011 starting today! Routes are available online and are posted at each school. Transportation personnel are also available to assist families and answer questions through the District's Bus Hotline at (678) 594-8000.

We need your help with Lovinggood’s PTSA Membership. We will need volunteers for assembling membership packets and working a table selling memberships at various events. There are day and night times available to help. The more volunteers the shorter the window – hopefully ½ hour time frame.

Aerospace Engineering Summer Camp
The Division of Engineering at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) is holding an Aerospace Engineering Summer Camp for 12-18 year old middle and high school students. The camp will be held on SPSU campus from July 26th - 30th. Total fee for the camp is $50. Students will get a chance to learn the basics of flight, types of aircraft, introduction to helicopters, spaceships, balloons, blimps, sail planes etc. The camp also includes RC flight demos, flight simulator demos, visit to aerial robotics lab, and paper aircraft flight competitions. Attached is a flyer with more details.

National Call-in Day for Education Jobs!
Call Congress on Wednesday May 26th!
NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY TO SAVE EDUCATOR JOBS, WEDNESDAY, MAY 26!
This Wednesday, Speak Up for Education & Kids by participating in a National Call-in Day.
The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to markup its version of the emergency supplemental appropriations bill this week which will include $23 billion for education jobs funding. This funding is an essential step to avoid hundreds of thousands of teacher layoffs in our children’s schools.
TAKE ACTION:
Call 1-866-608-6355 to contact your Representative in Congress. You will be connected to the United States Capitol Switchboard.
Tell your Representative to support including funding to save education jobs in the emergency supplemental appropriations bill.
Make your voice heard! Participate in the National Call-In Day and speak up for education and kids!

This is a national emergency -- 300,000 educators are losing their jobs across the country.
